ParaPro Assessment

The ParaPro Assessment measures the ability of paraeducators to use reading, writing, and math skills when assisting in the classroom. It was developed by ETS as part of their Praxis® testing program. Certification requirements for teaching assistants were established as part of the No Child Left Behind Act and the Every Student Succeeds Act.

The ParaPro Assessment is a computer-based test that must be completed with 2½ hours. It is only given in English, and all of the questions are multiple choice. Two-thirds of the questions test skills and knowledge while one-third focus on the classroom application of this knowledge. Here is the test format:

  • Reading: 30 Multiple Choice Questions
  • Mathematics: 30 Multiple Choice Questions
  • Writing: 30 Multiple Choice Questions

The testing center will provide scratch paper that you can use during your exam, but you should bring your own pen or pencil. The use of a calculator is not permitted. You may not use any study materials or notes, and personal items are not allowed in the testing room.

While the ParaPro test is not overly difficult, it includes some challenging questions. Be sure to do plenty of ParaPro test prep! You can start with our free paraprofessional practice test. Work through the questions carefully and then be sure to review the explanations in order to learn from your mistakes. Good luck!
